Donations against unfair deportation detention - legal aid fund brings the liberty in 32 cases

(openPR) - Berlin, 19 January 2007. A positive balance of the legal aid fund for deportation prisoners pulls the Jesuiten Flüchtlingsdienst (JRS). In the past year 20,404 euro at donations met. Thus the JRS for 61 deportation prisoners in Berlin and Brandenburg legal aid, for 32 of them financed firstrode lawyers the dismissal from the detention. 18 prisoners were pushed away despite all efforts, with eleven run the procedure still, them must in the detention remain for the time being.

The legal aid fund was called in June 2005 by ten organizations and church places in the life, in order to improve the legal situation of the deportation prisoners. Differently than in the remand after three months no obligation lawyer is placed to them, so that they can hardly control whether their arrest is legal. Some prisoners are for months held, although deportation detention is legally permissible only if the deportation is possible in the near future. Also person under age, pregnant woman or patient are arrested. By the legal aid fund at short notice assistance is possible in such difficult cases, as lawyers are financed.

„The high number of the dismissals shows that many deportation prisoners are arrested to injustice “, evaluated JRS leader Martin strongly SJ, the success ratio with critical view of the practice of the committal orders. Despite the positive balance the support granted so far remains however only one drop on the hot stone. 2006 was concerned according to estimations of the JRS about 2250 humans in Berlin and Brandenburg von Abschiebungshaft. Therefore it is urgently necessary to supplement the legal aid fund. In order to be able to support at least 10% of the deportation prisoners in Berlin and Brandenburg, the JRS asks for further financial support. Donations for the legal aid fund to:
