Metabolism of tumor cells restrains the immune defense

Of the restraining effect by the tumor metabolism a group of the white blood corpuscles, the T-Lymphozyten, which in large measure of the immune reaction of the body are involved, is concerned. By the education of special proteins (Zytokine) these are able to destroy pathogens and other damaging cells over different ways.

As a cause the research group sees the high Laktatproduktion of certain tumor cells around Kreutz and Fischer. Lactic acid develops with the dismantling of glucose in absence of oxygen. This procedure is called also fermentation. However not all cancer cells exhibit this metabolic form.

According to the results of measurement Laktat suppresses the Vermehrung and Zytokinproduktion of T-Lymphozyten over up to 95 per cent and leads up to 50 a per cent acceptance of its celldestructive potential. Furthermore a high Laktatspiegel causes in the tumor environment that the white blood corpuscles cannot remove own metabolic final products in the form of lactic acid no more, which leads to an additional impairment of its function.

With suppression of the Laktatproduktion by means of a developed restrictor no impairing effect pointed itself to the T-cells. The study findings point on the fact that a purposeful influence of the metabolic pathways of cancer cells could be a promising strategy for the promotion of the immune answer against Tumore. 2,142 indications
