Overview study determines: Vitaminpillen save deadly health risks

(openPR) - the market for Vitaminpräparate and food auxiliary means boomt: Each third German reaches for a Forsa study to pills, caps or Pülverchen. Estimations proceed from 1 billion euro annual turnover in Germany alone by vitamin and mineral material preparations. Hope for Fitness, health and protection from diseases, connected with the income of these means, is however extremely deceitful. Some Vitaminpillen, then found now a large study out, could even the number of deaths increase.

Danish scientists, among them Goran Bjelakovic of the university clinic Copenhagen, had picked such out, which appeared besondert founded due to their methodical basis from a multiplicity of already published studies. Altogether 47 studies remained remaining also over 180.000 participants, in whom the health effect was examined by preparations with so-called anti-oxidative Vitaminen: Vitamin A, C and E, beta carotin and the trace element selenium.

With a differentiated analysis of these methodically particularly well founded studies with low distortion tendencies it showed up then that for the income of some Vitaminpräparate a number of deaths risk increased compared with control's groups had been found. This increased risk amounted to for beta carotin 7%, for Vitamin A 16% and for Vitamin E 4%. For selenium and Vitamin C none could be determined such fatal connection.

Actually, then also the authors grant, are the risk for individual humans rather small. If one considers however that in North America and in Europe roughly 80-160 million humans regularly take Vitaminpräparate, then one must classify the harmful effect nevertheless differently.
