Waste paper - Austrians on record hunt

If each Austrian collected 68.3 kg waste paper in the previous year already, then this peak value could be this year still getoppt. With 70 kg per head a new record result was obtained. Collecting waste paper is a Austrian success history - in the past ten years the quantity collected by of Austria households increased over over 50 per cent. 2006 rose it in relation to the previous year by three per cent to 578.000 tons.

Engineer Werner Knausz, managing director of the waste paper recycling organization company Ltd. (ARO): „The recent record value of the waste paper quantity collected by of Austria households is to be due to the most comfortable collecting system of the world. Constantly rising waste paper quantities show that the municipalities and the Entsorger carry outstanding work out. “The good economic situation is just as crucially participated in the positive development - it provides for a higher paper consumption.

Which concerns the collecting quantity for each head of the population, 2006 ran off the Vorarlberger the Wienern rank and to lead the Land of the Federal Republic comparison with 79,7 kg. But also in Vienna it came in the comparison to the previous year to an increase on 77 kg. On the third place the Steiermark with 75,2 kg follows. In the castle country 73.4 kg were collected, in upper Austria 69.6 kg. The Kärntner of households came for each head on 67,8 kg waste paper, the Niederösterreicher brought it on 67,1 kg, followed from the Salzburgern with 59,7 kg and the Tirolern with 55,9 kg.

With „the environmental awareness “the different results in the Lands of the Federal Republic do not have to do anything to the population. In Vienna and in Vorarlberg the tourism affects crucially the collecting quantity. In Salzburg and Tirol considerable waste paper quantities from households in recycling yards are seized.

Old becomes - ever better prices again again

In Austria the collected waste paper is burned nor deposited neither. It is converted completely inland to new paper products. The entire paper chain - production, processing, utilization - is busy one important industry and approximately 20,500 coworkers. The ARO system is not efficient only, but becomes also ever more favorable: Waste paper is in demand and is well paid. Financial surplus of the ARO made in the past six years a repeated lowering of the license tariffs, the enterprises for the packing regulation corresponding the collection and utilization in circulation of the Papierverpackungen set by them for paying possible makes happy in the long run also the consumers.
