Energy costs save with carbon infrared emitters
Personalisierte Mailings dries carbon infrared emitter particularly efficiently
(openPR) - by the employment of carbon infrared emitters (CIR) of Heraeus Noblelight the company The Lettershop Group (TLG) in Leeds could achieve the correct speed of the drying process for the high-speed print heads of their plants. In addition, compared to before the system assigned from TLG, significant savings of energy and operating cost were reached. Since the new infrared modules of Heraeus become not water but air-cooled, is reduced besides maintenance costs substantially. The plants are simpler to clean and must less often be switched off.
The Lettershop Group (TLG) is an independent enterprise, which transacted investments in million height, in order to place surely that it can maintain its position as one of the prominent enterprises for direct communication in Europe. It uses the newest binding and single sheet technologies, in order to produce qualitatively high-quality pressure for Direct Mails. An important part is thereby the production of personalisierten Mailings, for which the raw material on large printing machines is printed. The prepared roles will then provide either by lasers or Inkjetdrucker with a Personalisierung.
For large orders TLG offers a technology, with which print heads can print with up to 300 m/min and up to 280 million ink droplet per second supply. It is essential that this ink is completely dried, before the Mailings, depending upon requirement, is cut, folded or stuck. Conventionally this drying process with very high performance short-wave infrared emitters was implemented positioned in the close infrared range, directly after the print heads. These short-wave emitters transferred enormous energy quantities into the printing ink, in order to be able to dry so the color very fast. The high achievements made however a water cooling of the emitters necessary, by means of a tubing system and an associated cooler. In addition were difficult the emitters to clean and had a short life span, which meant frequent down-times and thus high maintenance costs.
Heraeus developed therefore for TLG an efficient alternative. Since the used ink are water-based, the drying process was changed over to centralwavy emitters, since water absorbs infrared radiation in the middle wavelength coverage best. There they proved centralwavy carbon infrared emitter CIR the effective middle wavelengths combine with the fast response times as particularly good suitably, which show also short-wave emitters. After expanded tests finally two complete lines were equipped with CIR emitters in Leeds. Each line consists of two CIR systems, which an emitter module, an exhaust and a control panel contain. In the emitter module are carbon twin emitters with a surface achievement of approximately 140 KW /m2. The before used system had against it an output of 300-400 KW m2. Beyond that can be steered now via the control panel, how many emitters are needed for the respective range and how much achievement must be used as a function of the volume speed.
Since the installation all four systems proved as very efficient and to cause an annual saving of 30.000 British Pound per line. They need very little maintenance costs, because cleaning lasts now only two to three hours during the very short-wave infrared system before two days needed. After almost two years the first emitters are still full in function. Additionally place is saved, since no water cooling is more necessary. The new system shows also a larger tolerance with sensitive papers, because the paper reaches only about 30-35 with the employment of CIR °C, compared with the 60-70 °C with the employment of the before used very short-wave emitters. The omission of the water cooling has additionally positive health and safety effects, because the danger that personnel at the hot pipes burns itself, was eliminated in such a way.
