(openPR) - metal, plastic or wood - many materials are coated today with powder coating. Powder coating is applied as powder, melted by warmth and finally hardened. As heat source hot-air or infrared radiation is differently well suitable, depending upon the characteristics of product and lacquer system. Increasingly also combinations of both heat technologies are used.
Infrared emitters transfer large energy quantities within a short time, without a contact medium. So the furnace length can be shortened or production be accelerated. Rapid melting on of the powder helps to improve the surface quality of the lacquer. Heraeus Noblelight points on the fair PaintExpo to Karlsruhe infrared emitter, which helps, to arrange powder coating processes more efficient.
Infrared systems transfer warmth without a contact medium, by electromagnetic waves, which produce warmth in the material. Infrared radiation is absorbed by powder very well, the powder mass warms up fast. Powder is angeliert substantially faster than in the Umluftofen. Rapid melting on improves the lacquer quality and increases flow velocity. Like that in most cases a substantially shorter furnace is sufficient, or the production speed can be increased. It was shown that the holding or burning time for powder coating can be strongly shortened with the help of the infrared radiation or be saved in some cases even completely. Flatten sheet metals, like perforated plates for switchgear cabinets or floor slabs, needed a preservation time of approximately 15 minutes with approx. 180 °C. By tests in the internal application center with Heraeus Noblelight one showed that infrared emitters heat these sheet metals within approximately two minutes - dependent on plate thickness and lacquer system -. A preservation time was no longer necessary thereafter which lacquer withstood also without preservation time of bending tests, Gitterschnitt and MEK test (methyl ethyl Keton).
Infrared emitters show very short response times, short-wave and carbon emitters of Heraeus Noblelight react within one until three seconds. That makes warmth adjustable and a rapid change of different lacquer types with different burning temperatures in the existing furnace becomes possible. In addition it saves for energy, if the heat source must be turned on only if it is used. Infrared radiation warms up laminar materials evenly and fast, must be usually heated only from a side. Turningsymmetrical parts are usually transported in infrared ovens hanging, as e.g. gas bottles made of metal, which turn then around itself, while they are illuminated by two sides. For an even heat distribution infrared emitters in the infrared oven can be installed in such a way that the surface achievements of the shape and the wall thickness are adapted. At thicker zones more warmth one produces, than at thinner walls. A further advantage over hot-air furnaces is that the powder is not swirled or is not kidnapped. Without air movement also dust inclusions are avoided and thus the quality is increased. Infrared systems are compactly built and can be integrated easily into existing drying lines. That helps to rig hot-air furnaces and accelerate the manufacturing.
