The GWT story

On 08 August 1996 the GWT of „the society of friends and promoters DO Dresden registered association “(GFF) based. A goal was it, knowledge of the technical University of Dresden to marked out. The courageous idea was the starting signal for a successful Saxonian enterprise history. Three coworkers were the establishment team of the GWT.

In the first financial year (1996) the coworkers worked on nine orders, under it also projects directly for DO Dresden. In addition the establishment team was busy to organize the infrastructure necessary for the business concern. The first office still was in the areas of the technical University of Dresden. First larger orders were in preparation, settled however 1996 not yet. The financial year closed with a total output of approximately 80,000 euro.

Already in January 1997 it went correctly loosely. The society referred own offices in the Dresden falcon well. Ten further coworkers were adjusted. Pure hard storm took over the tasks of the management. More than 80 orders were to be worked on of now the thirteen coworkers. Among the clients were enterprises of the automobile and communications industry already renowned. The total output was increased in the comparison to the previous year and exceeded with 1,3 millions euro for the first time the million-border.

The situation concerning orders developed positively. 1998 was accepted 181 orders and a yearly total output was gained of nearly 2 millions euro. The required the consistent development of personnel resources. Also the top management was extended, Dr. Claus Martin were appointed into the management. Above all the structure of an interdisciplinary, onkologischen station for the university clinic Carl Gustav Carus and following start-up demand the GWT to a considerable degree. End of the financial year 98 46 employees work in the society.

The demand for knowledge from the technical University of Dresden continues to rise in the year 99. The GWT transfers the management for one of five traffic projects to Germany, which will develop innovative concepts for the preservation of the mobility in population centres. The GWT Projektbüro coordinates for it 15 Konsortialpartner also over 100 engineers, researchers and project managers. The project promoted by the BMBF Federal Ministry for education and research and enjoys country widely high reputation. For the end of the financial year those worked on now 73 coworkers of 360 projects. The end-of-year procedure registers a total output of 6,4 millions euro.

Economic success develops itself further after the turn of the century continuously. Already, after four years at the market each second order comes from the old Lands of the Federal Republic. The foreign business still is in the structure. There are new developments also internally. An office in Leipzig is created and a further business field is opened: The clinical studies. But a branch office in the Dresden ABACUS complex at the Campus of the university clinic is furnished. The owner of the GWT, the GFF, creates a corporation as „a nut/mother “for the GWT. The enterprise is called TUDAG - technical University of Dresden AG and is now partner of the GWT. The financial year successfully goes to end: 451 orders are worked on and the total output rise to nearly 10 millions euro. For the first time the GWT employs more than 100 coworkers.

The fifth financial year (2001) gives further growth to the enterprise. The 10 millions euro hurdle one takes. For the end of the financial year the scientific Dienstleister employs 130 coworkers. The GWT is assigned to support the Saxonian universities and universities during processing their patents. Major task becomes the marketing of patents and licenses. That is the birth of the Saxonian patent utilization agency.

In the following years the authority further developed with the goal of being able to cover always new fields. More than 1,000 customers entrust the GWT their mostly complex research tasks to the technical University of Dresden. In over 4.000 orders the business concept of the society could itself work satisfactorily. The anniversary year 2005 locks the GWT with a total output of 16,6 million euro. Since 192 jobs developed for the establishment. In addition 240 scientists and engineers in free cooperation are employed.

The GWT-TUD GmbH is a research enterprise and takes over the solution of complex tasks for customers from middle class and industry. The power spectrum covers research and development, consultation as well as management and organization on all technology fields.

Engineers and project managers of the GWT realize individual innovations over the entire creation of value chain. They work closely in interdisciplinary teams with the scientists of the technical University of Dresden (TUD). The GWT has experienced coworkers with most current expert knowledge and a sharp view for feasibility and economic use. Application orientation, privacy and reliability are thereby highest enterprise principles.

In ten years the won 1,000 customers come from the entire federal territory. In the financial year the Saxonian enterprise gained 2005 16.6 million euro. With the profit the theory and research at the technical University of Dresden are supported.
